Gra akcji, w której wcielamy się w bohatera wyposażonego w biotyczne ramię. Przemierzamy ulice wyniszczonej metropolii, badając okoliczności pewnego ataku terrorystycznego.
Bionic Commando to kontynuacja klasycznej pozycji, która pod koniec lat osiemdziesiątych poprzedniego wieku zagościła na automatach do gier oraz na ośmiobitowej konsoli NES. Pierwowzór był platformówką wyróżniającą się przede wszystkim umiejętnościami głównego bohatera – miał on mechaniczną rękę, kryjącą w sobie specjalny hak, który okazywał się użyteczny przy pokonywaniu kolejnych poziomów. Firma Capcom postanowiła wskrzesić ten tytuł i wyprodukować grę akcji nawiązującą w dużym stopniu do oryginału sprzed lat.
Naszym podopiecznym w odświeżonej odsłonie programu jest ponownie Nathan Spencer. W życiu głównego bohatera w międzyczasie wiele się zmieniło, albowiem za popełnione w przeszłości przestępstwo został skazany przez sąd wojenny na śmierć. W dniu egzekucji w mieście Ascension City wybucha jednak eksperymentalna broń terrorystów. Rząd postanawia dać Spencerowi drugą szansę. Główny bohater, wykorzystując swoje unikalne zdolności, a w szczególności biotyczne ramię, ma za zadanie rozprawić się z siłami wroga.
Fabuła gry podzielona została na trzy rozbudowane akty, zaś akcja rozgrywa się w głównej mierze na ulicach wyniszczonej w wyniku ataku metropolii. Ramię głównego bohatera ogrywa kluczową rolę w zabawie. Nathan wykorzystuje je przede wszystkim w formie haka, dzięki czemu wzorem filmowego Spider-Mana przemieszcza się wśród wieżowców Ascension City. Urządzenie to może też być wykorzystywane do rzucania elementami otoczenia, wyrywania blokujących drogę przeszkód czy łapania przeciwników.
W sytuacjach kryzysowych możliwe jest skorzystanie z bardziej tradycyjnego arsenału, na który składają się między innymi karabiny maszynowe i snajperskie, shotguny, granatniki czy wyrzutnie rakiet. Na drodze Spencera stają zarówno podrzędni żołnierze, jak i potężne Biomechy, których pokonanie nie jest łatwą sprawą. Każdy z aktów gry ma ponadto swojego bossa.
Nowa wersja przygód dzielnego komandosa cechuje się bardzo szczegółową oprawą wizualną. Zmagania zaś obserwowane są z perspektywy trzeciej osoby. W grze pojawiają się zremiksowane utwory muzyczne z ośmiobitowej wersji, a głos pod Nathana Spencera podkłada sam Mike Patton, wokalista grupy Faith No More.

???? As the original Bionic Commando, Nathan Spencer became ????
???? responsible for training these new operatives. At the same ????

???? the comic book Chain of Command), Spencerl's sense of ????

???? In refusing to kill two rogue bionic prototypes, Spencer ????
???? disobeyed a direct order which ultimately led to the ????
