The fourth season consists of 30 half-hour segments total, ten of which will be combined to form five one-hour specials, creating 25 episodes overall. The first episode of season 4 premiered on September 27, 2007 in a new time slot, Thursdays at 9:00 (Eastern).
Jim and Karen broke up following the job interview, and despite her claims, Karen cleans out her desk and does not return. Pam and Jim attempt to keep their relationship status a secret; however, they are confronted by the documentary crew's footage of them kissing and admit to the camera that they are dating. Michael and Jan are now living together, Jan showing her controlling and territorial characteristics more than ever. Angela begins to doubt her relationship with Dwight when he chooses to euthanize her sick cat without permission.
Michael hits Meredith with his car before work one day, leaving her with a cracked pelvis. At the hospital, it is revealed that Meredith may have contracted rabies from an animal bite. Michael still feels guilt-ridden, until Meredith decides to forgive him.
